As a young boy of fourteen, Dr. Rogers came to Salmon from his home in Boise to work on a ranch south of town for the summer. He returned each summer to work in the Lemhi Valley, all the while knowing that someday he would return to stay. His pursuit of higher education led him away from Salmon for several years. He attended Walla Walla College in Washington, graduating with two degrees. A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology with a minor in Biblical Languages and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Health. With a certificate in teaching he spent two years as a teacher at Milo Academy in Oregon. His desire to be of service grew with each passing year. He applied for and was accepted into the dental program at Loma Linda University in southern California. After graduation in 1981, he was asked to stay and teach at the dental school but his heart longed for the mountains of Idaho. He set up his dental practice in an old log cabin house on Main Street. Even before his equipment was set up, a local man came to his door with his son in tow. This first patient became a lifelong friend, with many to follow.
